Greetings Chapel Team & Supporters,
On March 27th we had an enlightening AGM. Thirty-two of us met in the Sea-Sky Boardroom for conversation and enjoyed great snacks from YVR!
Highlights
- Drew Pankrath and (by video) CEO Tamara Vrooman updated us on YVR’s recognition as Best Airport in North America and on plans for the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver this summer.
- Nick Anderson shared with us about the YVR Crash Exercise in September and our involvement in the Friends & Family Centre.
- We enjoyed camaraderie with each other and welcomed Layne Daggett’s daughters Sharon & Dixie and board member Farida Ali.
- Drew surprised us with completed new signage at the Chapel and new vests for us all!
- Mark explained why the board wants the chapel to endorse the United Nations Declaration of Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP). We will vote on it at our 2027 AGM. For more info on this, please contact Mark at mark@yvrchapel.org

Move over Taylor Swift!
FIFA is coming to Vancouver this summer and the airport is preparing to welcome the athletes, staff, and fans.

- FIFA 2026 is the largest world cup in history
- 48 teams, 104 matches, and 3 host countries
- There will be a FIFA Fan Festival in Hastings Park
- Move over Taylor Swift! With tickets and merch FIFA 2026 is projected to earn 5 billion dollars more than Taylor Swift’s last record breaking world tour.
Other important announcements
- Our Associate Chaplains met on April 24th for special training with YVR and fellowship together.
- New RC Archbishop Richard Smith visited YVR on Tuesday May 5th for a tour of the Chapel and terminal.
- The Annual Appreciation BBQ for all Chapel Volunteers will be held on August 6th at the Kirkleys, so please put that on your calendars.
- The chapel offered its “Fly Without Fear” course, helping people overcome their fear of flying. This time the course included an hour and a half on an Air North plane. All of the participants said they found the course very helpful.
Thank you for your involvement and support!
