YVR Chapel was delighted to welcome Archbishop Richard Smith, installed as Roman Catholic Archbishop of Vancouver in May 2025. His tour of YVR began at the Chapel, where he warmly greeted Drew Pankrath, Manager of Guest Experience, and the other airport and chapel staff who welcomed him.

On March 27th we had an enlightening AGM. Drew Pankrath and CEO Tamara Vrooman updated us on YVR's recognition as Best Airport in North America and on plans for the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver this summer.

Greetings from our Chapel Team that continues to grow. Thank God that we are now back to full strength from Covid days, and we have 15 chaplains to serve along with our faithful volunteers.

Fall is the season for Thanksgiving for all we have and for new approaches to what we do. At the YVR Chapel, Chaplain Mark has created a new bulletin board that asks a Weekly Question and seeks responses from airport employees.

In July, lead chaplains Dennis & Mark invited our whole Chapel Team to the Annual Apprecation BBQ, to show how much each team member is valued for their input. 

This Spring brought recognition to YVR once again, as it was chosen Best Airport in North America by SkyTrax Awards.

In early December, YVR invited 27 of our our Chapel Team to the Sea-Sky Boardroom for an important updating of YVR procedures, and capped it off with a delicious Greek lunch. Drew, our airport overseer, informed us of new Chapel signage in the terminal and new vests & name tags coming for our team members.

The YVR Airport and the Chapel have been busy places over the Summer and now into the Fall. Our Chapel Team is daily involved in fulfilling its mission, to provide spiritual and emotional support for all passengers and employees, and that's what we enjoy doing most.

As I head to my daughter’s 40th birthday party (she lives in London UK), I recall a time 10 years ago when my mother and I were heading from New Zealand to her 30th via Vancouver airport. I have never forgotten your kindness that day when I lost my passport, and I have found your business card and wonder if perchance you are still the airport chaplain!
